Jackie Murphy’s and Cluskey’s faced off in the Second Division play-off in the Tuborg sponsored Dundalk Pool League last week.
Played in Jackie Murphy’s, it was Cluskey’s who started best when Declan Hillard defeated Kevin Soraghan 2-0.
In a tactical match, the visitors doubled their lead when Seamus Conroy beat Dermot Connolly 2-0. With the pressure now on the hosts it was the home player, Tommy O’Hare, who responded when he beat Cathal McKenna 2-0 and the home team levelled the match when Martin Lambe beat Niall Meegan 2-1.
The decider featured Barry Soraghan of Jackie’s against Alan Meegan and with the pressure on it was Barry who prevailed to win the match 2-0 to complete a remarkable comeback for Jackie Murphy’s.
This victory means Jackie’s will now contest the final against Windmill Black.
In the Shield competition, Avenue Inn United advanced to the semi-final when they defeated the Lumper’s 3-2. The winners for the Avenue were Jonathan Smith, Shane Gorham and Ciaran Sullivan while Ciaran Keenan and Dom Gallagher replied for the Lumper’s.
Avenue Inn Swifts also advanced to the semi-final when they defeated Sean’s Tavern 3-1; recording victories for the Avenue were Keith Gorham, Glen Duffy and Brian O’Gorman. The two Avenue teams now meet in the semi-final.
Also qualifying in the Shield were Windmill Red when they travelled out to play Callan’s. They had the victory sealed after three games with victories for Tony Bellew, Gussie Hearty and Eamonn Boyle. In the semi-final, the Windmill will play Harrison’s Blue who defeated the Sportsman’s 3-2 in the last quarter final.
