Twelve-year-old Cathal Kearney finished off his swimming season in fine fashion by winning a gold medal in the Boys U14 Freestyle at the National Community Games finals.
Cathal, who lives in Inniskeen, won both his heat and semi-final before going on to win the gold medal in the final.
Cathal is just after returning home from Sheffield where he swam in the National British Age Championships as part of the Leinster swimming team.
To be selected to swim at this Championship is an achievement in itself as Cathal was one of only four Leinster swimmers and 12 Irish swimmers chosen to attend this meet, based on him achieving four British qualifying times in the 100m Freestyle and Breaststroke, 200m Freestyle and Breaststroke and winning seven gold, a silver and a bronze at the Leinster Division One Championships which was held in the National Aquatic Centre (NAC) in June this year.
Cathal adds this gold to the one he received in February when he won the Irish Minor Schools Championship in the Boys U12 50m Freestyle.
