The big game in the First Division of the Tuborg Dundalk Pool League last week saw a clash between second and third placed teams, Avenue Inn Rovers and Castle Bar Traders.

It was the Traders who started off brightly when Liam Johnston won the first frame in his match against Declan Brady, however Declan responded to win the next two frames with excellent finishes to win his match 2-1.

The Avenue doubled their lead when local snooker star Aidan Kinsella showed off his brilliant best to beat the Traders captain Tiernan Mallon 2-0.

The pressure was now firmly on the Traders, but they responded as Paul Ruane took full advantage of mistakes by Stephen Gorham to win his match 2-0, to leave the overall score at 2-1 in favour of the Avenue.

The fourth match was between Louth team-mates, Avenue captain Pat Brady and Conor McDonnell. Pat went 1-0 ahead when he broke and cleared the table in the first frame but when he ran out of position in the second frame Conor produced an excellent five ball finish to level the match at 1-1.

In the decider it was Pat who broke and again he cleared the table from the break to win the match 2-1 and more importantly put the Avenue 3-1 ahead.

The Traders gained a bonus point when Stephen McBride beat John Dugdale 2-1 in the final match to leave the final score 3-2 in favour of the Avenue.

Harrison’s still looking for that first win

The second match featured Ciaran Renaghan of Harrison’s and Tommy O’Hare and in a tactical match it was Ciaran who won the match 2-1 to level the scores.

Paul Kearney, with two brilliant finishes, put Harrison’s in front when he beat Barry Soraghan 2-0 but the scores were level again when Vincent Brannigan beat the Harrison’s captain Gerry Reenan 2-0.

The decider featured Declan McCabe and Brendan Dullaghan and it was Declan who made no mistakes to win his match 2-0 and more importantly give Harrison’s their first win of the season with this 3-2 victory.

Champions on form

Also in the First Division, Windmill Red entertained the league champions Avenue Inn Eagles and it was the champions who started best when the returning Brendan Traynor beat Peter McCloskey 2-0.
