Last week’s big Tuborg Pool League game saw Harrison’s Blue travel into town to play league leaders Avenue Inn Rovers.

It was the home team who started on top when the returning Aidan Kinsella beat Brendan Reenan 2-0 with two brilliant finishes. The next match featured John Dugdale of Rovers and Ciaran Renaghan and in a scrappy match it was Ciaran who came out best to win 2-1 and level the match.

The third match was between the Avenue Inn captain Pat Brady and Paul Kearney and it was Paul who started best when with a superb finish went 1-0 ahead. The second game was a real tactical affair and in the end it was Pat who got the upper hand to level at 1-1. The deciding game was another tactical battle and again it was Pat who prevailed to win his match 2-1 and put the Avenue 2-1 ahead.

The Avenue sealed the victory in the next match when Stephen Gorham beat Kieran Grimes 2-1 and the away team gained a bonus point when John Sands beat John Browne 2-0 in the final match to leave the overall score 3-2 in favour of the Avenue.

Also played in the Avenue Inn was the derby match between Avenue Inn Eagles and United and it was the Eagles who simply outclassed their counterparts with a 5-0 victory.

The winners for the Eagles were Wayne Rogers, David Hanratty, Graham Baitson, Conor McDonnell and Ruairi Gogarty. Only Ciaran McGuinness and Jonathan Murray won a frame each for the United team.

In the other First Division game Windmill Red beat the Sportsman’s 5-0 without dropping a single frame. The winners for the Windmill were Tony Bellew, Gussie Hearty, Richie Keeley, Eamonn Boyle and Victor Murray.

In the Second Division, Castle Bar Baize entertained the Lumper’s and it was the away team who started best when Stephen Finnegan beat the home team captain Shane Dillon 2-0.

The home team were soon level when Mattie Hoey came from 1-0 down to beat Nathan Lambe 2-1 and the Lumper’s were back in front when Dom Gallagher beat Dermot Hannon 2-0.

The match was level again when Benny McAleavey, with some superb pool, beat Alan Dullaghan 2-0. This now set up a decider between Bryan Crowe of the Baize and Ciaran Keenan.

In a tense deciding match it was Ciaran who went 1-0 ahead and at this stage it looked as if the Lumper’s were on their way to victory. However Bryan had other ideas and he turned the match around by winning the next to frames to seal 2-1 victory for himself and a 3-2 victory for Castle Bar Baize.

Other results - Callan’s 2-3 Windmill Black; Cluskey’s 3-2 Sean’s Tavern; Jackie Murphy’s 3-2 Avenue Inn Swifts.
