Dundalk Grammar School student Brian O’Sullivan received good news last weekend when news filtered through that he would form part of the Irish Swimming team for the upcoming Junior European Swimming Championships in Belgium.
The 17-year-old from Ardee will travel to Antwerp from July 4-8 as part of the Irish team. The qualification standard for the Irish team selection is based on the race times of the top 16 swimmers in Europe under the age of 18.
The call up comes hot on the heels of his double victory at the Irish Longcourse National Championships in March where he was crowned both the Irish Senior Mens 200m Freestyle champion and the Irish Senior Mens 100m freestyle champion.
This achievement was made even more remarkable by the fact that Brian is still a full-time secondary school student and was just rewards for Brian and his coach, Gary McCreesh, who coaches him at Aura Leisure Centre in Dundalk.
