DUNDALK self-defence expert Wayne Rutherford is hosting a free workshop for local parents and children which will explain ‘How to defeat the bullies without violence’.
According to the founder of MAS-F martial arts school, the aim of the workshop is to empower children with “non-violent” mental and character skills that help them to become immune to bullying.
“Back to school season is here. Most parents are busy getting all of those much needed supplies to help their youngsters have a successful school year,” said Wayne.
“But there is one, often overlooked supply, that when missed can cause a child to have a horrible school year, and that’s knowing how to deal with the everyday bully.
“Bully’s can be major distraction for their victims. Victims of bullying suffer damaging blows to their self-esteem and often become loners. But there is a solution, and that solution is empowering children.”
Bullying can take the form of verbal and phyiscal abuse, gestures, exclusion, extortion and e-bullying. The Nationwide Study of Bullying in Irish first and second level schools conducted by Dr Mona O’Moore in Trinity College Dublin indicates that some 31% of primary pupils and 16% of secondary students have been bullied at some time.
Wayne is hosting a free one-hour interactive workshop that will educate participants about how to handle situations with bullies and inspire them to become champions in life.
The workshop will cover topics such as how to handle bullies, what can happen if you are a bully, the five keys to success in life, and protecting yourself from verbal and physical attacks.
Wayne added that on the day children will learn how to deal with the most common bulllying scenarios.
Wayne’s ‘Kids Power Bully Defence’ course is due to start on September 10. The first group is suitable for four to six-year-olds and is taking place from 2pm until 3pm. The second group is aimed at seven to 14-year-olds from 3.15pm until 4.15pm.
All children must be accompanied by an adult for the full event. Wayne has been empowering children in Dundalk as a martial arts school owner since 1998. He frequently hosts free child safety, bully defence, child personal achievement workshops and camps in the community. For more information contact Wayne on 086-2522721 or email email@example.com.
