DUNDALK TIdy Towns’ Open Door project continued at the weekend with a very informative tour of Aiken Barracks, led by Sgt Ricardo Lucchesi.

The Open Door project got underway at the end of May with the idea of giving tours of some of the town’s best known buildings. Already tours had been given of the courthouse and the Garda Barracks with good turn-outs reported for each.

Perhaps the biggest crowd yet visited the 27th Batallion’s Aiken Barracks last weekend with further tours lined up for the summer months of further landmark buildings including the recycling centre and the water treatment plant.

One person who attended the tour of Aiken Barracks at the weekend said: “It was very enjoyable. I’ve driven past it hundreds of times over the years but never really knew what was behind the walls.

“It was very informative and very interesting.”
