St Joseph's Redemptorist Church
If the Three Wise Men were around today they would have used google maps instead of a star to find Bethlehem.
Dundalk Garda John Brady told over a thousand people at St Gerard’s Novena on Wednesday morning that while the internet and social media have changed our world very much for the better, it will never replace real life and real relationships.
Garda Brady and his colleagued Garda Noel Loughran are juvenile liaison officers with An Garda Siochana.
They give talks in schools on internet safety, but this week they are the guest speakers at the novena which is drawing 10,000 people daily to St Joseph’s Church on St Alphonsus Road Dundalk.
Garda Brady warned people about sharing too much information through social media. There are predators, he said, trawling for online information, so the message is: be careful and be aware of this fact.
He said people also need to be aware of addictions, such as gambling, and the dangers of misusing technology.
“Have we lost out on the art of good conversation,” he asked. “It will never be replaced.”
