Man killed, four seriously injured in separate bank holiday crashes across the country

Separate investigations are underway following a number of serious road crashes around the country this Bank Holiday Monday

Separate investigations are underway following a number of serious road crashes around the country this Bank Holiday Monday.

In one incident a motorcyclist died after his bike was in collision with a car in Ardagh village, County Limerick at around 6pm.

Gardai say the motorcyclist, a male aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene while the male driver of the car was transferred to University Hospital Kerry for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The man was the second person to die on Irish roads over the Easter weekend. On Sunday evening, a young man died when the scrambler he was driving was in collision with a car at Citywest in Dublin.

Separately, two women and two children were seriously injured in a road crash in County Sligo this Monday afternoon.

"Shortly before 2.30pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision on the N59 at Ballysadare. The occupants of one vehicle - two adult females, aged in their 40s and 20s, along with a 9-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl - were transported by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries. The sole occupant of the second vehicle, a woman in her 50s, was taken to the hospital for assessment," said a garda spokesperson.

In another incident, gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny on Easter Sunday.

They say, emergency services were alerted at around 12.40pm following a collision between a car and a motorcycle on the R448 at Knockwilliam.

The motorcyclist, a male aged in his 30s, was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin where he remains in a serious condition. No other injuries were reported.

Gardai are appealing to anybody who witnessed or who has any dash-cam footage relating to any of the road collisions to contact them.

Forensic examinations have been conducted at the scene of each incident and investigations are ongoing.
