Two original stars of cult Irish film 'The Commitments' will be reuniting this coming August, in Dublin, for a celebration of the 1991 Alan Parker film, with more special guests set to be announced!

The film, adapted from a book written by Roddy Doyle and then directed by Alan Parker, told the story about a group of aspiring musicians from Dublin, who put together a band with the help of their manager, Jimmy Rabbitte, to escape the drudgery of everyday life. Their music is inspired by soul legends such as Marvin Gaye and James Brown.

Many of the young actors that featured in the film, including Angeline Ball, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Bronagh Gallagher, went on to become established stars in the TV and movie industry, whilst frontman Andrew Strong went on to sign his own record deal and even toured with The Rolling Stones.

On Saturday, August 30, 2025, Robert Arkins who played the lead role of Jimmy Rabbitte and Kenneth McCluskey who played Derek 'The Meatman' Scully, will be reuniting for a 'special Commitments evening' at The Lark in Balbriggan, a recently opened multimedia concert venue, located on the campus of the Irish Institute of Music and Song.
