Gardai continue to question three men amid Josh Itseli murder probe

Gardai are continuing to question three men arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of a man aged in his early 20s.

The victim, named locally as Josh Itseli, died in a shooting in Dublin.

Gardai responded in the early hours of Monday to an address in Drimnagh in the south of the city following reports of shots being fired.

On arrival at Knocknarea Road, officers discovered a black Mercedes Benz and a black Volkswagen Golf, which appeared to have been in a collision, before finding the victim with gunshot wounds.

Despite treatment, the man, aged in his early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai said they are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.

The post-mortem examination of Josh Itseli will be carried out on Tuesday by State Pathologist Heidi Okkers.

The three men arrested as part of the investigation remain detained at garda stations in Dublin under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

The men – two men aged in their early 20s, and a teenager – were arrested by gardai on Slievebloom Road shortly after the reports of the shooting.

During the course of this investigation gardai recovered a firearm, which will be subject to forensic examination.

Technical examinations are now complete and all roads have been reopened.

A number of cars seized have been taken to a secure garda storage facility for forensic examination.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

“Any information received will be dealt with in the strictest confidence,” a garda spokesman said.

On Monday, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee told RTE: “The attack in Drimnagh last night was completely unacceptable and is not something we will tolerate on our streets.

“I commend the gardai for responding quickly, resulting in the speedy arrest of suspects. Tackling crime and ensuring safer streets continues to be a top priority for An Garda Siochana and the Government.”
