The woman alleges the attack happened at a hotel
An Irishman has been accused of an alleged rape of a woman in the US over the St Patrick's Day weekend.
The man, who is thought to be a firefighter from Dublin, was brought before Boston Municipal Court on Monday March 18 charged with the alleged rape of a woman in a hotel in the city of Boston, Massachusetts.
US investigators claim the man was arrested after allegedly attempting to board a flight in Logan International Airport on Saturday, three days prior to when he was originally supposed to return to Ireland.
US media have reported that state police stopped the plane from leaving and removed the man, who was already interviewed earlier that day.
The man had allegedly flown to Boston on Thursday and the woman alleges she was attacked by the man the following morning at a hotel.
According to the district attorney's office in Boston, the man and woman were allegedly seen together at the hotel by surveillance cameras on the Thursday evening.
The man was brought before the court on Monday was apparently ordered to surrender his passport and not to leave the state of Massachusetts.
Bail has supposedly been set at $100,000 (€92,000) and the man is said to be due back in court for a probable cause hearing in April.
