Man told Dundalk court 'you can't remove a king from his kingdom'

A 39 year old man who told Dundalk District Court “you can’t remove a king from his kingdom” was remanded in custody after he refused to sign a bail bond which directed him to stay off land which he claims belongs to him.
James Carey with an address at Preston Hill, Stamullen, Meath was before the court charged with causing criminal damage to an electric fence at Preston Hill, Stamullen on a date unknown between the 14th and 15th of March last.
He is further charged with entering the land without the consent of the owner, with a mini digger which was likely to substantially damage the land, to prevent persons entitled to use the land from making reasonable use of it and substantially interfering with the land.
A sergeant told the court last Wednesday that he was seeking a number of conditions to be imposed as part of Mr. Carey’s bail – that he doesn’t interfere with any property belonging to or currently leased by a named individual and that he does not interfere with any witnesses associated with the case.
He also asked that it be stipulated that the defendant does not enter any lands currently owned or leased by the man in question.
Mr. Carey claimed that the man does not own any property and asked the court to specify what lands it was referring to.
The case was then adjourned to Drogheda district court on May 24th.
The defendant continued to address Judge Eirinn McKiernan saying “I own that land under the Land Commission and I’m also the head of State under the Land Commission. You can’t remove a king from his kingdom.”
The sergeant subsequently told the court the accused would not sign his bail bond, Judge McKiernan remanded Mr. Carey in custody.
