Daire McConnon starred for St Mary's as the Ardee men booked their place in the final of the Louth GAA Powerscreen New England Paddy Sheelan Shield with victory over St Mary's on Friday night.

The centre-half forward landed seven points over the hour, while there were good supporting roles from Conor Gillespie with five points, and Ronan Carroll, who claimed the only goal of the game.

Early scores from McConnon helped the visitors lead by 0-4 to 0-1 after ten minutes, only for Thomas McKernan and Jack Lynch to land two pointers for the Jocks, who tied the game at five points apiece at the end of the first quarter.

The final six points of the half were shared as the teams went into level at eight points each. The Marys began to take a grip on the game after the restart and kicked three unanswered points in the third quarter.

The Mairtins were unable to find a response as they added another five to their tally before Ronan Carroll got in for the only goal of the game in the final minute.

The Mairtins did get off the mark for the second half in injury time through a Seosamh O’Rourke point.

St Joseph's 0-21 Mattock Rangers 0-16

St Joseph's set up a meeting with St Mary's in the final of the Paddy Sheelan Shield thanks to a five-point win away to Mattock Rangers on Saturday night.

Cathal Fleming opened the scoring for Mattock, with the best goal chance coming to the Joes when Adam Dullaghan’s rasping shot came back off the post.

Ben Collier equalised for the Joes with Oisin McGuinness adding a second in ten minutes. Mattock added points from Cathal Fleming and Liam Flynn before Ben Collier again equalised for the Joes.

The hosts hit three points in as many minutes from Fleming (2) and Liam Flynn before Ben McKeown struck a superb two-pointer free on 21minutes.

Mattock edged ahead when Ben Watters pointed, with Joe's equalising from a Ben Collier free, while the Joes scored the last two points of the half from Ben Collier and a Ben McKeown 45 to leave the half-time score, Joes 0-9, Mattock 0-7.

The visitors dominated the opening ten minutes of the second half, with six unanswered points, from Ben McKeown, Alan Quigley (2), Oisin Reidy and Oisin McGuinness (2).

Mattock struck a fine two-pointer and two singles to narrow the margin to four points at the end of the third quarter, 0-15 to 0-11.

Conor Neary steadied the ship for the Joes with a two-pointer from the right wing on 46 minutes before Mattock cut the margin to two, helped by a Cathal Fleming two-pointer on 54 minutes.

It was Ben McKeown who split the posts with another superb two-pointer free with five minutes on the clock. The Joes secured the win when Conall Smyth drove over the final two-pointer from wide left in injury time to secure the win.
