Hunterstown Rovers 3-8 St. Josephs 0-13

In the penultimate league match Hunterstown Rovers claimed the Division 2 League title with a 3-8 to 0-13 win over the Joes at home on Wednesday night.

In a fast moving first half the Joes had the better of the early exchanges, and pointed through Conall Smyth (2), Pearse Grimes Murphy and Oisin McGuinness. The only reply from Hunterstown inside ten minutes came from Ryan Burns.

Shane Halpenny and Ryan Ward added further points for Rovers before the latter claimed the first goal of the game on 28 minutes to send his team in with a 1-4 to 0-6 lead.

The opening five minutes of the second half saw the Joes land three points from Alan Quigley, McGuinness and Smyth, but the game turned back in Hunterstown’s favour when Burns fired an unstoppable shot to the Joes net for a 2-5 to 0-9 lead.

Conor Neary and David Finn were among the points for their sides as the Joes cut the gap to one point entering injury time but it was Hunterstown who sealed victory when James Rogers got in for their third goal of the game.

Dundalk Young Ireland's 2-9 Clan na nGael 1-5

Young Irelands proved too strong for neighbours, Clan na Gael, as they claimed the local bragging rights in this derby clash at Pairc Eire Og. Goals either side of the break from Peter McStravick and James Prendergast did the damage as the hosts earned a 2-9 to 1-5 win.

There wasn’t a lot between the teams in the opening period as Cian O’Donoghue and Jack Callan were among the scores in the opening quarter, before Aodhan Kirk struck the first goal for the visitors to give them the edge.

However, Prendergast took centre stage in the closing ten minutes as he kicked three points along with a 27th minute goal to send the Irelanders in with a 1-6 to 1-3 lead at the break.

The hosts continued to dominate after the restart with points from Jordan O’Donoghue and Dermot Mone, while McStravick’s goal on 42 minutes put the result beyond doubt. Robbie Curran and Liam O’Hanlon landed the Clans’ only scores of the second half in the dying moments.

Glen Emmets 1-11 O'Raghallaighs 1-11

O Raghallaighs maintained their strong finish to the league season when they picked up another point thanks to a draw with Glen Emmets at Tullyallen. A late pointed free from the Drogheda men saw the teams finished level at 1-11 apiece at the end of an entertaining contest.

Points from Eoghan Maguire, Ian O’Reilly and Jamie Gilkes saw the Emmets keep the scoreboard ticking over in the first half but the decisive score came from Maguire whose goal sent his team in with a 1-3 to 0-4 lead. Kyle McElroy and Danny Morgan were among the scorers for the visitors.

It remained evenly balanced in the second half and it was looking good for the O Raghallaighs when the edged ahead thanks to a Barry Flanagan goal. The Emmets regained the lead with points from Paddy McHugh and Conor Grimes but the Drogheda men struck in injury time to secure a share of the spoils.

Stabannon Parnells 0-11 St. Kevins 1-11

St Kevins boosted their hopes of Division 2 survival with a crucial win away to Stabannon Parnells in what proved to be a tight contest. The Philipstown men scored the only goal of the game to see his side claim a 1-11 to 0-11 win.

Harry Butterly did his best to keep Stabannon in the contest as he finished with seven points, while Johnny McGee, Robbie Callaghan, David Cluskey and Sean Reynolds were also on target.

Dundalk Gaels 0-12 Lannleire 0-8

Lannleire had their relegation back to Division 3A confirmed when they lost out to Dundalk Gaels on a 0-12 to 0-8 scoreline. It was certainly a welcome win for the Dundalk side in their bid to avoid the relegation play-off, with their fate now in their own hands ahead of the final league game.

At the end of a tight first half at The Ramparts, the hosts held a slender 0-6 to 0-5 advantage, with Lannleire on target through Paul Callan (2), Caoimhin Maher, Ian Mulroy and Liam Callan.

The visitors were unable to find the extra gear required in the second half and their survival hopes were dashed despite further points from Liam Callan, Darragh Malone and Colin Murphy.

Kilkerley Emmets 2-9 St. Brides 0-10

Kilkerley Emmets remain in third place in the table thanks to a 2-9 to 0-10 win over neighbours St Brides. The game in Kilkerley opened with a Tadgh McEnaney point but the Brides responded with three of their own to take the lead.

That advantage was wiped out by a Ewan McEnteggart goal before Cormac Bellew and Micheal Begley added points. The home side looked to be in complete control when Brian Brady added a second goal but the Knockbridge men got the last three points to cut the deficit to 2-3 to 0-6 at half time.

There wasn’t much to choose between the teams in the second half as the visitors cut the gap to two entering the closing stages.

However, Kilkerley had the edge on the night and finished with points from Tadhg McEnaney and Cormac Mallon to complete the win.
