Cllr Maeve Yore has asked that Louth County Council carry out traffic calming measures in Dromiskin to ensure the safety of pedestrians, school children and motorists travelling through the village.

In her motion at the Dundalk Municipal District June meeting, Cllr Yore called on the local authority to "carry out traffic speed surveys from Carroll's Cross, Commons Rd up to Ginnety's Cross in Dromiskin and install traffic calming measures to slow down traffic on these two main routes into village to ensure safety for pedestrians, school children and fellow motorists."

Responding to Cllr Yore's motion, Acting Director of Services, Operations & Economic Delivery, David Hanratty, said: "This will be considered as part of the ongoing work programme looking at areas of concern from a speed point of view. It will be assessed against relevant criteria and our traffic calming policy to establish the need."

Cllr Yore told the June meeting that An Garda Síochána "can only do so much" in terms of patrols in the area, and said she was asking for the measures to be carried out on behalf of the parents, and the residents and the people" of Dromiskin.

The Independent councillor's motion received support from members at the June meeting, including from Cllr Kevin Meenan, and Cllr Robert Nash, who both said it was a very busy road, with Cllr Nash adding that Dromiskin Tidy Towns does a lot of work in the area, including with the new walkway, and that a lot of people are walking the very busy road.
