It’s that time of year again when the Dundalk Musical Society are busy making the final preparations for their annual pantomime.
This year’s offering is the wonderful rags to riches tale of Aladdin and opens in the An Tain Theatre on Tuesday 7th until Sunday 12th of January. The show features an amazing cast of local talent, with over eighty children and young adults taking to the stage as members of the chorus.
Making her debut in a leading role, Deirdre Kenny stars as Aladdin trying to win the hand of Princess Jasmine, played by Juliette Crosbie.
Comic relief is provided by Craig McHugh and Andrew Duffy as Wishee Washee and Tyson the Panda while Laura McKinley and Sean Og Cairns will be keeping law and order as Sergeant Ping and PC Pong.
Emperor Stephen Clarke and Abanazar Patrick Brown come to blows in the desert but Nicola Brodigan as Genie of the ring helping bring the gang to safety.
Society stalwarts Nicky McCourt and Paudie Breen return as Widow Twanky and the Genie of the Lamp and panto regulars Jason Kelly and Oliver Hanratty return to take charge of the sing-a-long.
Director Geraldine Pender is tasked with overseeing proceedings this year and and bringing the music to life through her amazing choreography is Sarah Carpenter while chorus mistress Geraldine Casey is there to ensure everyone is note perfect. The amazing backstage crew, under the leadership of Niall McCooey, will ensure the set is moved with seamless precision and costume Mistress Phyllis Woods will make sure everyone is looking their best and the live band will be led by Kevin Donnelly.
Booking is now open at the Town Hall Box Office and tickets are great value at €12 for evening shows and €10 for the matinee.
