SOSAD Ireland, have been awarded a grant of 2500 euros from eBay Foundation’s employee-volunteer led GIVE Team.

Funds will be used to raise awareness of suicide and depression and encourage anyone affected to talk to someone.

SOSAD offers a range of support services to anyone who may be depressed, at risk from suicide, or bereaved by suicide and this new awareness campaign will help anyone affected by explaining, in simple terms, the effects on anyone affected.

A range of new leaflets on suicide, depression, teen depression and suicide bereavement will be displayed and made available throughout the North East.

Peter Moroney, the founder of SOSAD said that the eBay GIVE team’s brilliant and welcome support will help SOSAD reach all those that do not know how to get the help and support they need when they are struggling with depression or suicide.

It will hopefully encourage these to talk to someone and get the help that could keep them alive and help them cope with their difficulties.

The SOSAD Suicide Awareness campaign 2012 was made possible in part through eBay Foundation’s GIVE Team program, which empowers employees to support their communities through volunteerism and employee-sponsored grants.

In 2011 alone, GIVE Teams worldwide selected 160 non-profits to receive eBay Foundation grants totalling more than 625,000 dollars.

“eBay Foundation was established to reach beyond the boundaries of eBay’s virtual village to develop strong communities that bring people together,” said Lauren Moore, Executive Director of eBay Foundation.

“Through our GIVE Teams, we’ve been able to identify and support a wide variety of outstanding programs, that feed families in the San Francisco Bay Area, educate children in India, assist seniors in Germany, mentor at risk youth in Omaha, and serve the homeless in Austin-to name only a few.

“We couldn’t be happier to add to our list of beneficiaries by supporting SOSAD Ireland in its efforts to help anyone affected by suicide or depression.”

SOSAD Ireland has branches in Drogheda, Dundalk, Navan, Cavan and will be opening in Carrickmacross in the New Year and offer a full range of support services including 24 hour support line.
