Gardaí attached to Garda Headquarters and local Garda units carried out a planned operation yesterday morning (Tuesday) in Dundalk.
As part of the operation a male in his 40s was arrested and a firearm (rifle) recovered when members of the Regional Support Unit stopped and searched a car on Point Road.
A second male, in his late 50s, was later arrested during a follow up search at a house also in Dundalk.
Both men are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Dundalk Garda Station.
