Arrests in crackdown on dissident activity

Three men were arrested on Thursday last as part of an investigation into dissident republican activity in the border area.

The three men were arrested for dissident republican activuty in Carrickcarnon area of Dundalk.

The three men, who range in age from early 20’s to mid 50’s, were detained at Dundalk Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of Offences against the State Act 1939 as amended.

In a separate incident, a man who was arrested as part of an investigation into dissident republican acitivity last Wednesday morning was released without charge before the weekend.

Gardaí in conjunction with the Police Service of Northern Ireland undertook an operation in north Louth/south Armagh area in early hours of Wednesday morning.

A crack force of armed Gardaí from the Special Detective Unit and Crime and Security Branch stormed a premises in the Kilcurry, Dundalk area at approximately 1am, 18th December 2013.

One man, aged 43 years, was arrested and was detained at Drogheda Garda Station under the provisions of section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended, before being released on Thursday night.

Simultaneously a 19 year-old man and 18 year-old woman were arrested in Forkhill in south Armagh and have been taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
