A small dog that was found on the Ecco Road by a local journalist last week has been successfully rehomed.
Local journalist Niamh Kirk found the small Jack Russell, cold, shivering and nervous on the Ecco Road, and tweeted about him in order to hopefully find his owners.
Niamh brought him to the dog pound hoping that if he had a chip his owners could be located. He did not and then ended up facing the an anxious wait to see if he would be rehomed.
The Democrat posted about the little dog on Facebook, and received a strong response from many with offers to rehome him. The post received a great response and reached nearly 10,000 people and was shared nearly 150 times.
The Democrat understands that following the appeal there were many offers to rehome him, and after his owners did not come forward to reclaim him, the pound confirmed that he had indeed found a new home in time for Christmas.
This wee man was the lucky one, as literally hundreds of dogs are put to sleep across the country each week. If you want a dog, first think if you can give them a home for life, and then consider taking a trip to the pound or local dog shelter.
