DkIT welcomed nine new sports scholars to take up degree programmes at their Dundalk campus last week.
Four players from Dundalk FC, four from Drogheda FC and another from Louth GAA were welcomed by President Denis Cummins as the first recipients of the new Sports Scholarship scheme.
Speaking this week President Cummins said, “We are very pleased at the success of the scheme and at the enthusiasm of our new sports scholars.
“I hope they will enjoy their studies here.”
This initiative is aimed at persons of outstanding sporting ability who wish to pursue a full-time third level education whilst simultaneously pursuing a professional soccer playing career.
These students will study a range of degree programmes including sports, exercise and enterprise, accounting and finance, business and management and health sciences.
The programme is managed by Sports and Society officer Derek Crilly.
“For a small county, Louth produces more than its fair share of talented sports people,” said Derek.
“We are committed to nurturing that talent and providing opportunities for athletes to pursue their careers whilst fulfilling their academic potential.
