There has been a huge response to The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre charity race night.

This year, the Birches Alzheimer’s Day Centre Dundalk celebrates 14 years caring for those living with dementia. To celebrate that fact and in order to raise much needed

funding, Image IT Group will host the charity race night at Dundalk Golf Club this Saturday 16 August 2014.

“To date, we have raised over €11,000 from local businesses alone and expect to raise between €13,000 and €15,000 in total,” said Peter Durin Image IT Group.

“The event is fully sold out and we have sold over 180 tickets. I have been very surprised and taken aback by the generosity of local businesses towards the Birches, which is testimony to the great work they do locally.

“We were looking for eight main sponsors, but we now have 20.

“This will be a great night for a very worthy charity. We had hoped to raise over €10,000. Now we have well exceeded that.

“These funds are badly needed to maintain the outstanding work of The Birches Alzheimer Day Centre. Many of us are touched by alzheimer’s in our families and patients at the day centre on Priorland Road are able to enjoy life again in a beautiful environment and with a personalised care and activity plan that promotes their health and well being,” said Peter.

The Birches Day Centre Dundalk provides personalised care and a new life for Alzheimer patients every day. Back in 1992 family members and friends affected by Alzheimer’s came together for the first time here in Dundalk to share their experience and to develop a dedicated support group.

After formalising the group and years of enthusiastic fundraising, the Birches Day Centre opened its doors in June 2000.

Part of the Irish Alzheimer Society, the Birches provides dementia specific services and supports and advocates for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers. Whilst it is co-funded by the HSE north east and the north Louth branch, 60 per cent of the funds have to be raised by the support groups and the community, in order to maintain this outstanding facility.

The charity night at the races will be an evening with friends and family while making a difference in your community.

It is organised by Peter Durnin of Image IT Group and Joe Durnin of Joe Durnin Accountants.

So remember, the event will take place at Dundalk Golf Club on Saturday 16 August 8pm. Bet on virtual races, enjoy a hot and cold buffet and dance to the DJ afterwards if you have the energy left.

Tickets for the event are available from Image IT Group, 5 Stapleton Court, The Ramparts, Dundalk,
