Bridge Street Studios exhibition ‘Response’ is due to open next week in the Basement Gallery, Dundalk.
‘Response’ is a touring exhibition that opened initially in The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre, Armagh in August followed by The Craft Granary in Cahir, Tipperary in October.
The Basement Gallery in the Town Hall, Dundalk will be showing ‘Response’ from Monday, 18 November to Friday, 29 November.
Seven members will be exhibiting including Mary Cowan, Sarah McKenna, Fiona Thornton, Fiona Quigley, Gemma Callén, Rachel Tinniswood and Orla Barry.
It will be officially opened by Eileen Corcoran (The Arts and Culture Show, Dundalk FM) on Wednesday, 20 November at 7.30pm and poet Barbara Smith will also read a poem commissioned for this exhibition.
The seven artists will also give a talk about their work in the Basement Gallery on Friday, 22 November from 1.10pm-1.40pm.
For this exhibition the artists have created a collaborative body of work which draws out and utilises these connections in a creative, artistic endeavour.
To begin with each of the seven artists created an initial piece of work in their chosen medium which communicated their perception of ‘Internal’.
These works were gifted along a chain to another artist colleague who took inspiration from their gifted piece and created five new artworks in response.
This resulted in an interesting dynamic and communication between the pieces, which mirrored the connection among the artists at Bridge Street Studios.
Bridge Street Studios, Dundalk, county Louth was founded in 1996 and is one of the leading artist studios in the North Eastern area.
