Fans of the Dundalk Square on Ice will be delighted to know that the seasonal ice rink is set to make a return to the town at the end of November 2013, the Dundalk Democrat can reveal.
The Dundalk Town Centre Commercial Manager, Andrew Mawhinney, told The Democrat this week that it is “very likely” the rink will return later in the year.
“It look very likely that Dundalk Square on Ice will return on the 29th November,” said Andrew, “ I will be shortly releasing a Calendar of Events & Festivals for Dundalk for 2013 , which will feature the ice rink as part of the Christmas Festival 2013. It created a great buzz last Christmas in the town.”
Last year the rink was an open air rink. Because the Irish weather is very unpredictable, some structural changes may be made.
“We are examining some structural changes, but no final decision has been made yet,” said Andrew.
Andrew said “Lessons have been learnt and improvements will be made this Christmas to ensure the customer experience is first class.
“The rink attracted folk from all over the North East who might have not visited Dundalk for a while, @ he continued. “This was good for business and overall businesses have been extremely positive about the event.
“The Dundalk Square on Ice is an important element of the Christmas Festival 2013 which I would hope will become an annual fixture.”
Meanwhile Sinead Roche, Dundalk Tourist Officer, told the paper “The rink was a wonderful addition to the heart of the town last Christmas and we look forward to its return this December.
“It was enjoyed by not only local skating enthusiasts but thousands travelled from North of the border for a ‘Shop ‘n Skate’ experience.”
