THE family of a young man whose body was recovered five days after he went missing have expressed their heartfelt thanks to everyone who assisted in the search and helped in any way.
The Sheelan and Keenan families thanked the local community for their help in tracing the whereabouts of 20-year-old Gavin Sheelan of Annaloughan, Jenkinstown who went missing on the morning of Tuesday, January 3.
Gardai launched an appeal seeking the public’s assistance in locating the young man, who was last seen at his home at 8am on the day he went missing. Described as being 5’11’’ in height, thin build, with brown hair and blue eyes, Gavin was last seen wearing a black jacket, woollen hat, blue jeans and runners.
There were no sightings of him following his disappearance. It was thought that due to the proximity to the border that it may have been possible that Gavin was in the North. Sadly, his body was found on Saturday, January 7.
Gavin is survived by his heartbroken parents Dolores and Gerry and his brother, Patrick, sister, Lauren, and a large, extended family. At the time of going to print, funeral arrangements had not been announced.
However, the family have requested family flowers only please, and donations, if desired, to AWARE. The house is strictly private by request. Tributes have been pouring in for Gavin from friends and neighbours.
Some of the tributes on the website RIP.ie included: “Gerry, Dolores and family thinking of you. - A mother who also lost a son”, while Lee McCullough posted “R.I.P Gavin, although we met briefly, you made an impact on my life that I will always remember. you really were one in a million”.
