A group of video and film students in DkIT are filming their second graduate film on a farm in Co. Monaghan
“This will be each of our crew’s second graduate film”, Eoin O’ Meachair, one of the students from the film group told the Democrat, “with the majority of us working on last year’s third year project entitled ‘Grief’, which is currently doing the rounds at short film festivals across Ireland.”
For their final year project the students are tasked with creating a short film based on a dissertation from their final year of studies.
Their film is entitled Server and is a sci-fi drama set in the near future, where androids have replaced humans as workers.
“Our protagonist, David a farmer, depends on the help of Sam who is an obsolete android”, explains Eoin. When two new androids, Philip and Bradbury are sent to the farm to replace Sam, David becomes suspicious and paranoid of their intentions, leading to disastrous consequences.
There are five students in total involved in the film making process.
“We are embarking on making our ambitious student film, each funding it as best we can out of our own pockets.
“We have also set up a crowd sourcing funding option to aid us with this.”
The group will be filming on a farm they have sourced through a friend and class mate in Monaghan.
“The base of pre production and post is in Louth.
“We are currently pencilled in to shoot on the 22nd to the 27th of April, and have narrowed our casting down to a shortlist.
“We advertised the casting on websites such as Starnow.ie.
“This is an adventurous project and we’d like to gather some community support.”
If you would like to help Eoin and his group with funding go to www.fundit.ie/project/server.
With your contribution they will be able to cover travel expenses to their rural location for our cast and crew, food and most importantly for a low budget Sci-Fi film, props.
