THE family and friends of a little girl from Inniskeen who is battling leukaemia have presented a cheque for e19,144.70 to a representative from Crumlin Childrens’ Hospital.
The money, which was raised in support of four-year-old Eva Keenan, was presented to Gerry Cully from the Crumlin Medical and Research Foundation at the Rock Inn in Channonrock on Saturday, February 19.
Eva was diagnosed with leukaemia on St Stephen’s Day 2009 and is currently undergoing a two and half year treatment programme, which involves two eight-week programmes and an 18 month maintenance chemotherapy programme.
The e19,144.70 was raised by the group via an innovative charity cycle and a Wigs ‘n’ Wellies football match. Forty-five cyclists completed a three-hour cycle on a seven-seater bike from Dundalk to Channonrock last October.
The money will go towards helping St John’s Ward, Crumlin Childrens’ Hospital - the Oncology and Haematology unit for babies, children and teenagers. On the same night as the cheque presentation, the third annual Rock Inn Lounge V Bar Charity football match took place in Grattan Park, Inniskeen at 6pm. This year, the match was held on behalf of Carrick Cancer.
