On Friday 24 April, the Student Council at Coláiste Rís in Dundalk hosted Kick for MND at Oriel Park. The event was a charity football match in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA), where two teams, Coláiste Rís Allstars and Coláiste Rís 11, battled it out for the Jimmy Hearty Memorial Cup.
The match was held in memory of the late Jimmy Hearty, a man who was heavily involved in football in Dundalk, but who passed away last November from Motor Neurone Disease.
Mark Dawe, co-chair of the Student Council with Cliona Coleman, was a nephew of Jimmy. He thanked all who helped organise the event, in particular Vice Principal Ms Paula Lavin, and teacher, Mr Martin Kavanagh.
The event was attended on the day by Fiona Hearty, wife of the late Jimmy Hearty, who presented the Hearty Cup to captain of the winning team, Conor McDonald.
