10 new affordable homes unveiled for Carrickmacross

Monaghan County Council announces launch of Affordable Housing Scheme at Sean Ghairdíní, Carrickmacross

Monaghan County Council has said that it is pleased to announce the approval of 10 new affordable homes at Sean Ghairdíní, Carrickmacross, which is around just 22km from Dundalk, under the Affordable Purchase Scheme.

This development consists of four two-bedroom homes and six three-bedroom homes.

This marks the second Affordable Purchase Scheme to be delivered in County Monaghan and the first such scheme in Carrickmacross, representing a significant step forward in providing accessible and affordable homeownership opportunities for the local community.

Cathaoirleach PJ O’Hanlon welcomed the announcement, stating:“The delivery of these 10 affordable homes in Carrickmacross marks another important step in supporting families to put down roots in our community.

"Monaghan County Council is committed to ensuring that people can access high-quality, secure and affordable housing close to schools, services, and local employment. This development reflects our ongoing work to strengthen the future of Carrickmacross and the wider South Monaghan area.”

Chief Executive Robert Burns added: “Providing access to affordable housing remains one of Monaghan County Council’s top priorities. The Sean Ghairdíní development demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration, strategic planning, and sustained investment in our towns.

"These new homes will offer long-term security for families and contribute to the continued social and economic vitality of Carrickmacross. We look forward to supporting prospective homeowners as the scheme progresses.”

A dedicated website and social media campaign will launch on Friday, 20th February, followed by newspaper advertisements on Wednesday, 4th March and Wednesday, 11th March.

Viewing opportunities will be available during an Open House event in Sean Ghairdíní, Carrickmacross, on Thursday, 5th March from 4pm to 6pm, with an Information Evening taking place later that day at 7pm in The Workhouse, Carrickmacross, for which tickets will be available through Eventbrite.

Applications can be submitted through a dedicated portal on the Monaghan County Council website (www.monaghan.ie), which will open on Friday, 20th March from 10am. House sales are expected to commence in April 2026.
