PHOTOS: Louth receives four awards at the 2026 Stripe YSTE

The Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is designed to raise schools’ engagement in STEM subjects

Students from four schools in Louth were among the award winners at the 2026 Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (YSTE) which took place last week at the RDS in Dublin. 

St. Joseph's C.B.S, St Mary's Diocesan School, De La Salle College Dundalk and St Vincent's Secondary School are the winning schools from Louth. The students who won the awards are as follows:

  • Dearbhla Leavy from St Vincent's Secondary School won the 3rd Intermediate Individual (Biological & Ecological) award for her project, An Investigation into the effect of Arm Strength and Core Strength on the ability to perform a handstand successfully.
  • Brian McCabe and Will Stewart from De La Salle College Dundalk won the 2nd Intermediate Group (Technology) award for their project, TrustLens - an AI-powered browser plugin for detecting bias.
  • Ruairí Ó Gráinne, Fergus Nolan and Conor Dolan from St Mary's Diocesan School won the 3rd Senior Group (Health & Wellbeing) award for their project, Investigating the effects of different frequencies when sleeping among teenagers aged 13-17.
  • Jayden McGahon from St Joseph's CBS won the 2nd Junior Individual (Social & Behavioural Sciences) award for his project, Do Teenagers Trust AI More Than Their Parents or Teachers.

Aoibheann Daly, a 4th year student from Mercy Secondary School Mounthawk in Kerry, was announced as the overall winner of the 2026 Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, with her project “GlioScope: Multi-task Deep Learning and Causal AI for Glioma & Glioblastoma Profiling”.
