Slight fall in Louth but national homeless numbers see another record high
Louth, and the North East region, saw another marginal fall in the number of people accessing emergency accommodation in October, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, but nationally another record high number of homeless people has been recorded.
178 adults accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 20-26 October 2025 in the North East region, down from 184 in September. Of the 178 adults in October, 156 were in Louth, down from 159 in September, and 22 were in Monaghan and Cavan combined.
Of the 178 adults, 31 were aged 18-24 years old; 95 were aged 25-44; 44 were aged 25-64; and eight were aged 65 years and over. 113 were male and 65 were female.
115 of the 178 people were Irish citizens; 26 were EEA/UK citizens; and 37 were non-EEA citizens.
25 families with 59 children also accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 20-26 October 2025 in the North East region. This is down from 30 families with 70 children in September.

Nationally, 11,492 adults and 5,274 children, giving a total of 16,766 people were recorded as homeless in October. It is up from 16,614 in September and yet another record high number of homeless people in the State.
This figure that does not account for those rough sleeping, refugees, asylum seekers, individuals in domestic violence shelters, or those in hidden homelessness—people sleeping in cars, on couches, or in unsuitable living conditions.
