RIP Daniel Fenton

There has been a great sense of heartbreak and sadness across Louth recently after the community sadly lost a man who was known and loved by many.

Daniel Fenton Senior from Slieve Foy Park, Muirhevnamor in Dundalk died on Sunday, November 16, 2025, and was well-known for his involvement in park runs and marathons.

He will be sadly missed by his sorrowing wife Geraldine and their son Daniel Junior, daughter-in-law Eimear, son-in-law Adrian King, grandsons Kyle, Sid, Lucas and Jack, brothers Michael and Neally, sister Annemarie Fenton, his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, his extended family and a wide circle of neighbours and dear friends.

Daniel Fenton completed countless park-runs in Dundalk and was a proud member of his community in Dundalk who everybody will miss dearly.

A GoFundMe has been created by Joanne Kelly which has nearly raised €2,000 so far for local athletic programmes and the park-run community in Dundalk.

The GoFundMe says, "Daniel was a cherished presence at local park-runs—someone whose smile, encouragement, and unwavering reliability lifted everyone around him. He gave his time freely, not for recognition, but because he genuinely cared about people and believed in the power of community.
"Running wasn’t just a hobby for Daniel; it was a way he connected with the world, built friendships, and inspired others to push forward. To honour Daniel’s legacy, we invite you to make a donation to support our local athletics programmes and the parkrun community he cared for so deeply". The link can be found below to donate.

North East Runners Dundalk has made a tribute post for Daniel on Facebook which said: "It is with great regret that we learned of the death of Dan Fenton.

"Dan joined North East Runners AC in 1998 and was one of the first 25 members. Dan was well known for his marathon finishes and made the front page of the National papers twice. He was well known for winding up his fellow athletes and he'll be sadly missed. The club offers their sincere condolences to his wife Geraldine and son Danny and also to his extended family".
