Work began on just eight apartments in Louth this year

Construction began on just eight new apartments in the whole of Louth so far this year, the latest data from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has revealed, with none commenced at all since June.

Construction began on 110 homes in Louth in September. While this is down from 465 homes in September 2024, it is up from just 18 in August and is the highest number of homes commenced in a single month so far this year.

Work commenced on 386 homes in total in Louth in the first nine months of this year, down from 2,267 during the same period last year. Of the units commenced in September, seven were one off houses and 103 were scheme houses.

The eight apartments on which construction started in Louth this year, were all in June. During the first nine months of last year, work began on 669 apartments in Louth.

Nationally, construction began on 1,653 new homes in September, down massively on the 13,338 commenced in September 2024. So far this year construction began on 10,193 new homes across the country, down from 52,043 during the same period last year.

By Local Authority, the most units commenced this year so far have been in Dublin City, with 1,808 units commenced, followed by Cork County with 956 and Fingal County with 736
