Servisource Scholarship winners with Aileen McCann, Associate Director of Servisource and DkIT Nursing Staff
Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) and nationwide healthcare recruitment specialist Servisource, have announced the winners of a scholarship programme for 3rd year nursing and midwifery students.
Samantha Enright, a Mental Health Nursing student, from Dundalk, Aisling Murphy, a Midwifery student from Carlingford, and Claire Keenan and Eve Hyland, both Intellectual Disability Nursing students, from Castleblayney and Clane, were each named winners of a €1,500 scholarship.
This scholarship initiative is aimed at encouraging 3rd year students to inspire the next generation of nursing and midwifery students, providing them with insights into a career in these areas. The winners shared the personal attributes required for their various careers and the skills and knowledge they have attained whilst on clinical placement.
Eligible students were invited to apply for a chance to win the scholarships by submitting either a written assignment, or creating a 10 min video/media presentation sharing how they would encourage the next generation to consider a career in nursing or midwifery.
Dr Briege King, Head of Department of Nursing, Midwifery & Early Years said: “It is a privilege to work alongside Servisource to deliver this very generous scholarship to our students. It is a fantastic opportunity for our team in DkIT to witness the passion our students have for their roles, and also to find out particular aspects of their roles which they believe would inspire the next generation of students to follow in their footsteps.
"On behalf of the nursing and midwifery team I want to congratulate the students and thank Servisource for providing them with such a wonderful opportunity.”
Presenting the scholarships. Aileen McCann Associate Director of Servisource said: "For the past six years, Servisource has proudly partnered with the School of Nursing at DKIT, awarding scholarships valued at €1,500 to outstanding students in each nursing discipline.
"This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals. A big thank you to all the nursing students returning this year — your dedication and passion inspire us all. Wishing you a successful and fulfilling academic year ahead."
Speaking after receiving the award, Aisling Murphy said: “I honestly cannot fully express my delight upon hearing I'd won the Servisource scholarship. Our last 'student summer' ended this week and there were nerves in the air this morning as we returned to college. For me, that was replaced with absolute joy as my name was called out. I am so grateful to the team for giving me this amazing opportunity.”
Samantha Enright added: “I still can't believe it! Winning this scholarship means so much to me. Working alongside such dedicated people within nursing is a privilege. I'm so grateful for the chance to learn and grow and I hope this inspires others to consider this path, especially those returning to education later in life.
"The team at DKIT, particularly in the nursing department, is incredible. Their support and student-focused approach have made all the difference.”
