Louth sees slight fall in number signing on Live Register

Dundalk, along with the rest of Louth, saw a slight fall in May in the number of people signing on the Live Register, compared to April, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

3,203 people signed on in Dundalk in May, down 26 on April 2025. It is also down by 139 on the 3,342 who signed on in Dundalk in May of last year.

Ardee saw a more significant monthly fall in the number of people signing on in May, with 40 fewer signing on in the town than the 709 who signed on in April, representing an almost 6% decrease.

The 669 people who signed on in May in Ardee is also down from the 713 who signed on a year earlier in the town.
3,171 people signed on in Drogheda in May, down 47 on the 3,218 who signed on in the town in April of this year. It is also down 40 on the 3,211 who signed on in Drogheda in May 2024.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for May 2025 was 165,700 people, down by 4,700 people or 2.8% from April 2025.

The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 162,269 people for May 2025, of which 56.0% were male and 71.6% were Irish.
The 25-34 years age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in May 2025 at 38,472 people or 23.7% of the total.

The counties that recorded the largest percentage increases in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to May 2025 were Dublin (+2.9%) and Kildare (+0.7%), while the largest decreases were in Kerry (-18.3%) and Clare (-15.2%).

In May 2025 there were 106,488 people on the Live Register for less than one year, which was 563 fewer people than in May 2024.
