Many condolences have been offered following the passing of one of Dundalk's finest showband musicians.
Patrick McGee, also known as Paddy, of Fatima Park, Dundalk, passed away peacefully in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
Senator John McGahon was one of many to leave his condolences, offering his "deepest sympathies to the McGee family on the passing of Paddy.
"He was one of life’s gentlemen and a lovely man. Thinking of you all at such a sad time," the Fine Gael senator wrote on Rip.ie.
"May Paddy rest in ever lasting peace."
Tributes have poured in, remembering Paddy as "a true gentleman" and a "good neighbour", and as a talented musician.
A drummer, Paddy had played in a number of showbands based around Dundalk and Louth, including the Young Vikings and the Toronto Showband.
Paddy was also a much loved father of Karen, Darren, Debbie and the late Colin, Gerard, Patrick and Orla, a dear grandad (Dado) of Carla, Kayleigh, Darren, Jake, Erin, Sarah, Ben, great-grandfather of Cole, Christian, Amber, Jace, Camden and Madison, and brother of, Michael, Moira ,Johnston, Ignatius, Brendan and Colm.
He will be sadly missed by his son, daughters, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, son-in-law Gavin Connor, daughter-in-law Sylvana, brothers-in-law, sisters-in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
According to Rip.ie, he will repose at his home from 2pm until 8pm today Thursday.
The removal will take place on Friday morning, February 2, to St. Josephs Church, Castletown arriving for Mass 11.30am, followed by cremation in Glasnevin Crematorium at 2pm.
