Fianna Fáil's Emma Coffey said she was “over the moon” after being re-elected in Dundalk South with 1,572 votes.

Emma, speaking to the Dundalk Democrat, said: “I am delighted, just over the moon, really glad. I increased my vote by 50 per cent on last time.

“I think it's clear the centre held, which is always good in politics.

“We just had an amazing campaign, my team was brilliant and the support I got on the doors was great.

“Really glad I have a mandate for five years.”

Emma said going forward her issues are “Irish Water and better infrastructure and better integration with Irish Water.”

She continued: “Expansion of our bus routes, protection of our green areas, proper development that is good planning for our homes, but has to be good planning, that's the main thing.

“I am going to be very busy; the fire is back in my belly.”
