HE SAID
“I’m not surprised by the performance because that would mean I never saw something like that before, but I saw it lots of times. Three-nil is a bit harsh, but we had a big hand in that....the third one we gave away pretty much by ourselves.” Jurgen Klopp, after his Liverpool side had suffered a shock defeat to struggling Watford late on in the 2019/’20 Premier League.
Defeat, however, made no difference to the standings at the top of the table: Liverpool had gone 44 matches without losing, and were a staggering 22 points ahead of second place Manchester City. They were 19pts clear at the finish, giving them their first league title in 30 years. Watford were relegated.

ST PATRICK’S TEAM
A request has come in from a reader seeking the St Patrick’s team that won the Louth 1972 junior championship. “I’m almost certain Jemmy Sheelan was on it, “ says John.
You’re right, John, the recently-deceased Jemmy’s career was drawing to a close when he lined out for the final with St Mochta’s at Knockbridge, playing alongside his long-time colleague, Henry Donnelly. It was his second junior win.
The team: Eddie McGill; Paddy Oliver, Tom Connor, Peadar Hynes; John Cumiskey, Pat Murphy, Willie Murphy; Gerard Carroll, Seán Hanlon (captain); John Loughran, Eugene Sheelan, Seán Martin; Séamus Finnegan, Henry Donnelly, Jemmy Sheelan.

PADDY CLOCKS A ROUNDY NINE
A GAA County Board meeting wouldn’t be the same without a contribution from Paddy Farrell. The St Bride’s delegate was made an Honorary President two years ago, joining Peter Brannigan, Frank Lynch and Paddy McMahon on the list.
But that hasn’t stopped him from challenging the top table, as the executive is known for voicing his opinion on various issues.
At the recent February meeting he was more in focus than ever. Not because of what he had to say, but because chairman, Seán McClean, informed the meeting that the bould Paddy was about to celebrate his 90th birthday. There was a solid round of applause from the gathering.
