A motorist who was previously banned from driving after a speeding prosecution was heard in his absence, had been on his way to feed his newborn baby who was in the I-C-U in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda and had a set feeding schedule, Dundalk district court was told last week.

The Defence barrister explained that the conviction against Colm Quinlivan of Mourne View Hall, Dublin Road, Dundalk had been set aside, but as he was outside the 14 day window to lodge an appeal her client had to abide by a five month ban that was imposed, in relation to a speeding offence at Mullaharlin on July 20th last year.

Judge John Coughlan struck out the case.
