Louth's Fitzpatrick welcomes funding for Dundalk flood relief measures

Louth Independent TD Peter Fitzpatrick has welcomed the announcement today by Minister of State Kevin Boxer Moran, of the approval of funding of €668,571 to Louth County Council under the OPW’s Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection scheme, for a project near the town centre in Dundalk.

Speaking on the announcement Deputy Fitzpatrick said:

"I strongly welcome this announcement from the Office of Public Works. I have invited the Minister Kevin Boxer Moran for State to Louth over the past number of months and have been dealing with his Department closely on this."

The funding, according to Deputy Fitzpatrick, will be allocated to a project near the town centre in Dundalk. The main works will consist the extension of a drainage pipeline towards Balmer’s bog to mitigate against flood risk in the area.

"I’m delighted to see the Department have listened to the people here in Louth", Fitzpatrick added.

"This investment in our community will benefit our communities for decades to come. We all know that flooding can have an appalling impact on our families, through these state of the art flood defences we will be able to give people some piece of mind.

"It is essential for our local area that we have local flood relief work. Flood relief is something in our coastal area that should be addressed as it affects so many people", Deputy Fitzpatrick concluded.
