Report on impact of substance abuse in North East welcomed by councillor

The launch of the Family Addiction Support Network seminal report on how families are affected by substance misuse in the north east has been welcomed by Cllr. Ruairí Ó Murchú.

The Sinn Féin councillor said the report, which was launched by minister of state, Catherine Byrne, provides families in this area with a voice, for the first time, in the debate around substance misuse.

"There are a number of important points made in the report, including the fear and intimidation families are subjected to by criminal gangs.

"Families spoke about the lack of help for themselves and for those addicted to substances and how this region is particularly under resourced.

"Sinn Féin has been repeatedly asking for updates from the HSE about the lack of a dual diagnosis scheme in Louth. This was also highlighted in this report and we will continue to pressurise the HSE to ensure this is delivered."
