Ardee Municipal District to use discretionary budget for specialised thumb locks and CCTV

Funding scheme announced for security supports for older and vulnerable people in Ardee

Cathaoirleach of Ardee Municipal District, Cllr. Pearse McGeough

Ardee Municipal District members have announced today, a funding scheme for providing safety and security supports to older and vulnerable people in the mid-Louth area.

The Ardee municipal district members were determined to use the €55,000 discretionary budget 2019 for the benefit of older and vulnerable people in the mid-Louth area and have devised a scheme to do just that.

The money will be used to put in place a funding scheme to provide specialised thumb locks and CCTV in the homes of people who could not afford to do it for themselves and will be aimed at vulnerable people throughout the Ardee municipal district area.

The scheme will be aimed at providing thumb locks and non-recording CCTV which will enable people to see who is knocking at their front door on their television and not have to open the door.

The €55,000 fund will be split evenly between both initiatives and will be run through groups supporting vulnerable people in the mid-Louth area.

Commenting on the decision, Cathaoirleach of Ardee Municipal District, Cllr. Pearse McGeough said:

“I believe the Ardee members are undertaking a very positive initiative that will ensure vulnerable and older people can live independently in their own homes”.
