Roisin Duffy said that “now that the winter has passed many people are looking at completing works on their homes. There are several schemes available that people should be availing of”.
The Better Energy Warmer Houses Scheme provides free energy upgrades in homes built before 2006. The upgrades are free in respect of eligible homeowners who are in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance, Working Family Payment, One Parent Family Payment, Fuel Allowances or Carers Allowance where the carer lives with the person they are caring for.
The upgrades available under the scheme include attic insulation, cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, internal wall insulation, lagging jackets, draft proofing and energy efficient lighting and in some cases heating upgrades and or window replacements may also be included.
There is also a Better Energy Home Scheme that gives a fixed cash grant for insulation and heating system upgrades that is available to all homeowners to provide insulation, dry lining, external wall insulation and heating system upgrades. The grants range in value from €400 to €6000 depending on the work completed.
