Táin International Hillwalking Festival
The inaugural Táin International Hillwalking Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday June 2 and 2.
The event will see walkers take to trails around the beautiful Cooley peninsula and mountains; led by experienced leaders participants will walk in the footsteps of Cúchulainn as they take in the historical surroundings of north Louth. There are three different grade walks each day to cater for most fitness levels, from steep 17km walks to easier more leisurely 10km walks.
This year’s event ties in with the Táin March and Legends of Louth Festival which also take place on the same weekend. Walkers will meet up with the Tain March on Sunday afternoon and proceed to The Bush where there will be after walk festivities including battle reenactments and a final feast. There is no registration for the final historical portion of the walk and fancy dress is encouraged with a warrior/Cúchulainn theme. Historical talks will take place in the Imperial Hotel Dundalk on Saturday 1st with doors opening at 7.30pm and talks starting at 8pm.
Ticket prices are €10 for one day or €15 for two days. The price includes bus transfers to and from the walks to the registration centre at Dundalk Tourist Office.
Tickets can be purchased on the morning of the walks at the registration centre, or ordered online at eventbrite.ie.
