Dundalk cross-border student trade fair this week

Dundalk is holding its own cross border student trade fair in the Marshes Shopping Centre this Friday.

The event grew out of a desire to promote cross border relations through enterprise between young people on both sides of the border.

The idea was suggested by a group of transition year students from Dundalk Grammar School in the 1990’s and has now been running for over 20 years. The event is managed by a group of event management students in the school each year, with the students reaching out to other schools in the area and in Northern Ireland with the event growing in size every year.

The event will be judged by Ciara Byrne (Recruitment Plus), Pat McCormick (DKIT), Aidan Harte (Optimum Results), Orla McDonnell (Trahere Coaching) and Breean Weldrick (Osborne Recruitment) with awards being given for best stall presentation, best marketing, most innovative product, best salesperson, best visiting company and best overall company.

Five student enterprises are taking part from Dundalk Grammar School, Nine from De La Salle, seven from St Vincent’s and four from Dun Lughaidh as well as Banbridge Academy from Northern Ireland.

The event is taking place in the Marshes Shopping Centre on Friday April 5 from 10am with the presentation of awards taking place at 2pm with the public encouraged to attend and show their support for young student enterprises.
