Gardaí have warned people in Louth to be vigilant regarding bogus calls from a person saying they are calling from the Eir telecommunications company.
A garda spokesperson said: "We have had reports from two people that have been contacted by people from Eir who told them their service was going to be disabled. These people gave the bogus callers access to log in to their computers remotely which meant that they could access all of their banking details, PayPal accounts etc.
"We would urge people who might receive similar calls to hang up and tell the caller that you will contact Eir yourself to check. You're not obliged to hand over any details."
