A 20 year old man charged with assaulting a Garda causing him harm, had his case adjourned at Dundalk district court last week so he can pay €1,000 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.

In putting the matter back to the 20th of March, Judge John Coughlan told Michael O’Connor of Woodview Park, Dundalk that it was a serious offence and added “You’re very lucky you’re not going to jail for assaulting a guard.”

The defendant was also before the court charged with causing €284 in criminal damage to the back passenger window of a patrol car and resisting a garda in the course of their duty, at Park Street, Dundalk on March 19th last.

A co-defendant Ciaran O’Connor (22) of Clann Chulainn Park, Dundalk who was prosecuted for being intoxicated in a public place, obstructing a Garda sergeant and using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour, had his case struck out after he paid €300 to the court poor box.
