Late night Christmas train services between Dundalk and Dublin from Friday

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that timetable alterations will be made from 7th December 2018, following public consultation and the approval of the National Transport Authority

Late night Christmas services

In addition to more frequent services between Drogheda and Dublin, late-night Christmas services between Dundalk and Dublin will also begin this weekend, and will operate on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th, Friday 14th and Saturday 15th, and Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd December at the following times:

00:40hrs and 01:40hrs from Dublin Pearse serving Tara Street, Dublin Connolly, and all stations from Howth Junction to Dundalk

Fares will be charged at normal rates, meaning customers can use Leapcard and buy cash fares for the best value Christmas travel option. Weekly, monthly and annual season tickets are valid on late night services, so season ticket holders will be able to use late night services at no extra charge.

Late night services will also have security personnel on board to ensure customer safety.

A company spokesperson said “these changes will give much greater flexibility and options to customers travelling throughout the day, including more weekend and later evening services in response to customer demand.  We are also managing capacity on the key Northern Commuter and DART services in the peak and introducing minor changes to better manage demand. While we are using all available trains and existing capacity at peak, we can develop our off-peak services now as we prepare for the major investment in our infrastructure and fleet under the National Development Plan.

In addition, we’re delighted to begin our late night Christmas services on the three weekends in the run-up to Christmas. Operating for all stations to Dundalk from the city centre, , the trains will once again be hugely popular with late night partygoers who can save on expensive taxi fares.”
