Man who died in fatal road traffic accident in Castleblaney named

Gardai investigating the fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Castleblayney last night have named the deceased as Stephen Marron, 47 years old, from Castleblayney.

Garda Michael Devlin, 31 years old, who was injured has now been discharged from Hospital. Garda Devlin is stationed in Monaghan Garda Station.

The incident occurred at around 11.30pm last night. Shortly before the crash a Garda had attempted to stop a silver Audi A6 close to Castleblaney Garda Station.

This car drove off and the Garda was dragged by the car for about 500m before it crashed into another car, a Skoda Octavia, on Main Street.

The driver of the Skoda was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda where a post-mortem examination will be carried out by the State Pathologist.
 
The driver of the silver Audi, a man in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and is detained at Carrickmacross Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A 34-year-old male who was arrested at the scene remains in custody at Carrickmacross Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardai wish to renew their appeal for witnesses that may have been in or around Castleblaney last night at the time of the collision to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042 9690190, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
